NFL Roster Cut Deadline Winners, Losers: Hard spaces for significant names
Cut: Arizona Cardinals
Ridder went 6-7 as a starter last season Hawks He also completed 249 of 388 passes for 2,836 yards, 12 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. On the ground, he rushed for 193 yards and five touchdowns. He signed with the Cardinals this offseason, but was demoted to favor Clayton Tune To back up Kyler Murray.
Ridder doesn’t have an impressive arm, but he’s mobile enough to create when the play breaks down. He’s solid on short and intermediate throws, making him ideal for an offense that doesn’t rely on the deep ball and has positional skill to create after the catch.
Possible Match: Green Bay Packers. Two quarterbacks the Packers have on the active roster are starters Jordan Love And a new backup Malik Willis. Ridder would be an upgrade on Willis at this point. Learning in head coach Matt LaFleur’s play-action heavy, efficient system couldn’t be further from the run-heavy system Ridder experienced in Atlanta.
Cut: Denver Broncos
Perine turns 29 this season and had 693 yards from scrimmage (238 rushing, 455 receiving) and one touchdown with the Broncos last season. He won’t be a feature again, but thrives as a receiver and blocker. Denver cutting him may have more to do with the coaching staff’s connection to the second-year running back. Jaleel McLaughlinRookie, and played well as a rookie Audrey Esteem.
Possible Match: Dallas Cowboys. Dallas brought Ezekiel Elliott again Then to the team Lost Tony Pollard in free agency. Eliot et al Rico Dowdle In 2024, Dallas will be the top ranked NFC contender. Perine doesn’t necessarily need to be the starter, but with his receiving skills, he could complement either and provide a very diverse rotation at the position.
Cut: Houston Texans
Trade Stefon Diggs this season and rising talent Nico Collins And Tank Tel Brown has had a tough time charting in Houston this season. He played well even when he got the chance. He started 20 games over the past two seasons for Dallas and Houston and totaled 76 catches for 1,122 yards and five touchdowns. He took just eight drops in that span while working outside and from the slot.
Possible Match: New York Giants. New York spent a top draft pick Malik Nabars Who should get the lion’s share of targets for the Giants this fall? Head coach Brian Daboll could be on the hot seat in his third year and could use an experienced receiver. Outside of Nabers, Brown could provide some speed and productivity that could help spark the offense in an important year for the franchise.
Back to Kansas City: Chiefs Bring JuJu Smith-Schuster to Reloaded WR Room – But Why?
Cut: Carolina Panthers
Marshall Jr. was released by Carolina after the Panthers brought him in Deontay Johnson And Xavier Leggett Trade and the 2024 NFL Draft respectively this offseason. Marshall Jr. turned 24 this season despite entering his fourth year in the NFL. He was never a full-time starter, but played well in 2022 when he finished second Jaylen Waddle in yards per reception (17.5) among receivers with at least 25 catches. He showed a lot of talent at times but never put it together.
Possible Match: New England Patriots. The Patriots could use help at wide receiver and there is no one to stop Marshall Jr. from getting significant playing time. They could use a taller, vertical receiver with better production than a 2022 second-round pick Tyquan Thornton. And if he develops well, he’s still young enough to be a contributing franchise quarterback of the future. Drake Maye.
2024 NFL Draft Projections: The Chiefs rule the regular season, but is the three-peat ahead?
Cut to: Dallas Cowboys
The 29-year-old edge rusher was surprisingly cut by the Cowboys today, and Dallas was thin on the edge rusher. Micah Parsons. Lawson didn’t play well in a specific role last season Jets But he missed seven games for the team in 2022 following an Achilles injury. At 6-foot-2 and 265 pounds, he’s big enough to set the edge against the run in addition to his pass rush skills.
Possible Match: Baltimore Ravens. This feels like a move by the Ravens to wait until late August to find a contributor. with Jadeveon Clooney In Carolina for the 2024 season, Baltimore is without a top pass rusher on its roster. Lawson’s injury history shouldn’t stop them from adding great value to a defense that needs help at that spot.
