King Charles III was admitted to a private London hospital on Friday to undergo a “corrective procedure” for an enlarged prostate, Buckingham Palace said.
The 75-year-old monarch will be treated at a London clinic where the Princess of Wales is recuperating after stomach surgery. After arriving at Raja Gate, he went to the hospital.
“The monarch was admitted to a London hospital this morning for scheduled treatment,” the palace said. “His Majesty would like to thank everyone who has sent their best wishes over the past week.”
Charles, who ascended the throne 16 months ago, was diagnosed with a benign condition on January 17 after experiencing symptoms and undergoing tests. He canceled engagements and was urged to rest ahead of the procedure.
Publicity about King's surgery is seen as an opportunity to encourage other men to get their prostates checked in line with public health advice.
The palace said the king was “delighted to learn that his diagnosis is having a positive impact on public health awareness”.
