Jada Pinkett Smith says she couldn’t hook up with Tupac Shakur — despite him being her soulmate — because of a lack of chemistry.
In a new interview Rolling outThe 52-year-old actor opened up about his friendship with Shakur, who died in a 1996 drive-by shooting.
“There are all kinds of definitions of ‘soulmates,'” Pinkett Smith told RollingOut. “If there is such a thing as a past life, I definitely think Beck and I have been on some journeys.”
When asked if she regrets not taking things to the next level with the late hip-hop musician, Pinkett Smith laughed off the idea.
“It’s not possible, there’s no chemistry between us,” the actor said.
Pinkett Smith explained that the chemistry between her and Shakur was not romantic, and that they had a “friend-romantic chemistry” that made them a “dynamic duo”.
“It was like God created us like that, and it was like, ‘Look, I’m going to put you all together, right?’ she said rolling out. “‘But I’m going to tell you right now, I’m going to do it so you all can’t get together, because that’s not the point.”

This isn’t the first time Pinkett Smith has talked about how she and Shakur don’t have chemistry.

Pinkett Smith married Will Smith in 1997, a year after Shakur’s death. Smith admitted in 2020 that he was jealous of his wife’s relationship with Shakur.
Although they have been legally married for over two decades, Pinkett Smith recently revealed that she and Smith have been separated since 2016.
