Narendra Modi, India’s most powerful political figure in a generation, is set to serve a third consecutive term as prime minister, becoming only the second Indian leader to achieve the feat.

In the months leading up to the election, Mr. About three dozen opposition parties have joined together in a grand coalition called the Indian National Development Inclusive Alliance, or India, hoping to pool their votes for a strong fight against Modi’s powerful Bharatiya Janata Party.
