Spears fired off her apology and responded to Timberlake in another message on Thursday.

It read, “They said someone was talking about me on the street!!! Do you want to take it to court or go home crying to your mom like you did last time??? I'm not sorry!!!”

Spears was 17 when she started dating Timberlake in 1999 after they met at the Mickey Mouse Club, which has been the launch pad for many celebrities including Christina Aguilera and Ryan Gosling.

In her memoir, Spears described the unplanned pregnancy as a “surprise.”

She wrote: “For me, it's not a tragedy. But Justin was definitely not happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren't ready to have a baby in our lives, we were too young.

“If it was left up to me, I never would have done it.”

She also described the abortion as “one of the most painful things I've ever experienced in my life.”

Timberlake's response sparked a backlash on social media from many Spears fans, some of whom tried to popularize the hashtag “#canceljustintimberlake.”
